What are we doing to our planet Earth?

Global warming, dead zones in our oceans, catastrophic accidents such as Fukushima and the Gulf of Mexico and international financial crisis, come to mind instantly. Genetically modified seed and it's ownership, industrial pollution of land, air and water and first and third world poverty are just some of the big issues.

Global Issues

These global issues are enabled by politics, corporations, greed and cronyism at every level of society.  Whistleblowers such as Wikileaks who exposed cronyism behind commerce, politics and war is such a threat that its editor in chief, Julian Assange has been under house arrest for the past six months.

Commitment to Change

Committed individuals may feel powerless in the face of these immense issues yet "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has".  Margaret Mead - American Anthropologist.

We don't have a choice but to act; the alternative is our elimination from this planet.

Some, like Wikileaks can do a lot but we can each do a little, in how we live, what we accept and what we protest.  We can bring about change.

Take our native honey bee...

The Honey Bee

Apis Mellifera, mellifera on hive

The honey bee, Apis Mellifera, mellifera is to the Earth what the canary was to the miner and they are giving a very clear signal world wide that we are living on a sick planet.  Honey Bees are dying at an unprecedented rate world wide as a result of mans interference and their toxic environment.

Einstein estimated that mankind will survive for only approx four years following the extinction of the honey bee.  Yet, on a world wide basis, organisations, corporations and politicians continue to satisfy their own greed and to pay lip service to global problems.

Rudolf SteinerRudolf Steiner

I've recently been listening to some of Rudolf Steiner's lectures, in these are the solutions to heal our planet.  He speaks of honour, respect, biodiversity, of working with nature rather than against it.  His philosophy and his thinking is spiritual, scientific, radical and practical. Steiner left behind him a vast legacy of his life's work as a thinker and educator and there are thousands of hours of audio archives and a vast library of books available.

A Challenge

I'd suggest that all beekeepers listen to Steiner's lectures on bees and I expect those with any honour and connection to their Source will no longer continue to treat Apis Mellifera, mellifera as slaves in a honey factory.

I'd suggest that each of you who read this article, read at least one book or listen to at least one lecture in the area that most interests yourself and make changes in your life, whether in the area of your work or elsewhere to create a better society for all.

It is very sad how the rape and exploitation of our planet seems to have a new urgency. We've got to have it NOW! As you know here in the north-west we are gearing up for the battle of our lives. A group of us have been working hard to mount a good campaign. This will be launched next Tuesday. Petition and flyers have been drafted. There will also be an on-line petition. The leg work starts now. Wish us luck against these purveyors of greed, environme ntal disaster and carnage of the Planet we try to honour.

I wish you all the luck in the world with it Bridget and if there is anything I can do to support your campaign, I will be more than happy to do it.

This rape of our island will not just affect the NW of Ireland, every citizen of this country will pay the price. Our food, water and air will be contaminated - beyond our lifetimes, if gas is mined by 'fracking' in the Lough Allen & Clare Basins
